In loving memory ofNaphlin Avis Parkes
PARKES- Naphlin Avis 61, of Hartford, CT, beloved wife of John Parkes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, (January 28, 2014) surrounded by her family. Born in Portland on May 6, 1952, daughter of the late Calda and Lodiana (Hearne) Speid, she had spent her entire life in Portland, before moving to Hartford, CT in 1991 to be closer to her family. Naphlin was kind and caring and made her family the central focus of her life. She was a great cook and loved to make traditional West Indian dishes for her family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed taking trips to the casino and spending time with her family and friends. She leaves two sons, Patrick Parkes and his wife Ayesha of Hartford, CT and Kamoy Parkes of Hartford, CT; two daughters, Karen Smith and her husband Raymond of Hartford, CT and Cavette Costello and her husband Matthew of England; seven brothers, Melbourne, Murton, Lionel, Fendison, and Lyndel Speid, and Emmanuel Kenlock, and Davel Speid and his wife Sheila; five sisters, Alice Ingleton, Laura Lawrence, Remelda Nichols, Olive Webber, and Ilene Miller; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A service will be held on Sunday, February 16,2014 1 p.m., at the Priestman’s River Seventh Day Adventist Church, Islington District, Portland.
