Obituary
In loving memory ofHazel Kathlen Knight
Mrs. Hazel Kathleen Elethia Knight joyfully joined her late husband Rev Dr. John Knight at the feet of Jesus January 8th,2018. Her children and grandchildren rejoice in this reunion as Hazel lived each day for the glory of Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whose presence she now rests.
Born to Asley and Amy (Johnston) Yates on May 29th, 1934 in Black River Westmoreland Jamaica, she was the oldest of two children. Hazel spent her youth on the idyllic family estate at Content. A beautiful spot overlooking the ocean at Bluefields. From a young age she showed a special interest in assisting people in need, particularly women, youth and children. Therefore, it was no surprise that she spent much of her professional life as a Registered Nurse specializing in ER, Surgical/Oncology, and Visiting nursing.
Hazel married the love of her life, Rev John Knight, on Aug 30th, 1956. They became engaged following a 4-day courtship that turned into a love affair for the ages. She said “I got on my knees and prayed that the Lord would send me a godly man who ate nicely, spoke nicely, whose shoes were always shined and one where my marriage would not end in divorce. The moment I rose from my knees the phone rang and that call introduced me to John.” At the time of John’s death last year, they had been married 60 years. Indeed, Hazel was the perfect Godly woman who worked along side her husband for the Glory of the Lord. She became a local preacher and over the years held many leadership roles in the United Methodist Church.
Hazel loved nothing more than reading her bible. Each night for at least an hour one could find her beside her bed reading her scriptures and praying to the God she so adored. She was an exceptional pastor’s wife, outstanding mother, and a gentle loving and talented nurse.
She is survived by her two children, Peter (Florence) Knight of Boston, MA and Mary (Paul) Elzinga of Doylestown, PA. Beloved grandchildren, Joshua Knight, Rachel and Rebecca Elzinga, Mary Kuipers, and great-grandchildren, Tristan Knight, Andrew, Abigail &. AJ Kuipers. She was preceded in death by her parents, sibling (Calvin Yates) and grandson (Raphael Knight).
Hazel devoted her life to faithfully following her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a confidant, advisor, comforter, supporter and friend to all. She sought to be a loving reflection of Christ and could always be heard saying, “Do all the good you can, to all the people that you can, for as long as you can. In so doing, you show them the love of Jesus Christ our Savior.”
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 20,2018 at 11 A.M. at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, Doylestown PA
